Tools

Tools I built for my offshore transition.

Tools I built while preparing for offshore work. Each one turns a course I took into something I can interact with and keep learning from.

These tools were built with desktop in mind and may not work well on mobile.

G20 fixed-mount hydraulic-crane simulator

2026

G20 fixed-mount hydraulic-crane simulator

A fixed-mount hydraulic-crane simulator with accurate load physics. Built to keep practicing after the G20 Fastmontert hydraulisk kran course ended, when I no longer have access to a real crane but still want to sharpen the feel. Slew, luff, hoist, anticipation, reading swing. A way to build muscle memory and get familiar with the crane, without consequences.

What it taught me

Writing the physics forced me to understand why the load behaves the way it does on a slewing boom: how the hook responds to rotation, why a smooth swing comes from anticipation rather than reaction. A place to keep the feel alive between sessions, where mistakes cost nothing.

Overhead-crane rig simulator

2026

Overhead-crane rig simulator

A simple crane simulator with accurate load physics. Built to keep practicing after the G4 course ended, when I no longer have access to a real crane but still want to sharpen the feel. Avoiding swings, stopping swings, anticipation, reading momentum. A way to build muscle memory and experience without consequences.

What it taught me

Writing the physics forced me to understand why loads behave the way they do. And once it worked, it became the thing I actually use. A place to keep the feel alive between courses, where mistakes cost nothing.

Drilling fundamentals simulator

2026

Drilling fundamentals simulator

An interactive way to keep going deeper into drilling fundamentals, well beyond the content covered at IWCF Level 1. Clear visuals, live instruments, interactive controls. A way to work with the concepts instead of just reading about them. Built to turn dense technical content into something I can see, touch and play with.

What it taught me

Reading about pit gain, mud weight and pump pressure is one thing. Watching them move, and controlling what moves them, is another. This tool has taught me a lot, from building it to using it. I'm always tweaking it to make it more realistic, and the more I build, the more the subject pulls me in.

Rigging route planner

2026

Rigging route planner

A planning tool for lifts: hoist positions, angles, load weight distribution across anchor points, and obstacle clearance over, under, and between. Built during Riggerkurs and used throughout the planning phase of the course, and praised by the instructor.

What it taught me

Hours of planning with the tool sharpened my visualization of angles, spatial awareness, and instinct for lift geometry, seeing a setup and knowing immediately whether it works.
